Domestic violence occurs in an estimated 4 million intimate relationships each year in the United States.
The Surgeon General of the United States reports that domestic violence causes more injury to adult women than cancers, heart attacks, or strokes.
FBI statistics point out that a woman is battered every 15-18 seconds in the United States.
More than three million children witness domestic violence, and more than four million women are battered to death by their husbands or boyfriends each year.
Approximately one third of female murder victims in the United States are killed by their husband or boyfriend.
Domestic violence and abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of size, gender, economic status, religion or strength.
We often hear about other health awareness events in our African American community, but not domestic violence. This seems to be a hidden topic that has unfortunately became an acceptance and disregarded as if it’s not a serious issue. This eventually becomes a never ending cycle and generational curse.
It’s time to take a stand and I am asking for your support to help bring domestic violence awareness to our community. Therefore, my company, Masterpiece Enterprises, along with the brand alliance support of Distinctive Touch Enterprises, MSBU and New Life Steppers, will hold the "Speak Your Peace-Healing Is Your Choice" Domestic Violence Awareness event on Friday, October 21st at Terri Lynn's Banquet Hall in Milwaukee, WI. From 8-10pm will be a program that will include spoken word artists as well as other survivors. From 10:00pm until, there will be music and socializing.
